Better Journeys Week is set to return from 18-22 May 2026, encouraging islanders to rethink how they travelunder this year’s theme: ‘Don’t just commute: CONNECT!’

The theme moves beyond simply getting from A to B and asking people to see their commute as an opportunity to engage more meaningfully with their surroundings, their community and themselves.
This year also marks a milestone for the initiative, with the Isle of Man joining Guernsey and Jersey for the first time in a shared commitment to more sustainable travel across the Crown Dependencies.
Sponsored by Mourant, Better Journeys Week continues to promote more sustainable ways of getting around.

Better Journeys Week organisers are encouraging members of the public to share their chosen mode of transport or try a new commute on social media throughout the week. Whether it’s walking with friends, cycling together or choosing public transport, small changes can turn routine journeys into more positive, rewarding experiences, and participants are also invited to keep things fun, from scooting to even skipping to work.
Stepping away from traffic and the stress of finding a parking space can also support both mental and physical wellbeing. By making more mindful travel choices, islanders can arrive at their destinations feeling more positive, while helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality for the wider community.

Islanders across Guernsey, Jersey & Isle of Man are encouraged to take part throughout the week by making simple changes to their daily routines, such as leaving the car at home and taking time to enjoy a more active and communicative commute.
Kate Huntington,a Director of Better Journeys based in Jersey, said: ‘We all know that our islands are beautiful and travelling by bike, bus or foot allows us to experience our islands in a way that a car doesn’t. Better Journeys Week helps us to engage with our environment and the world around us whilst we commute, rather than rushing past it. We invite all islanders to enjoy their island homes in this way by taking part in Better Journeys Week.’
